The overarching goal of Sengul Lab is to understand the organization, connections and neurochemical content of the spinal cord, and the biological, biochemical, genetic, and biomechanical mechanisms that may be involved in the development and progression of spinal cord injury in order to find new treatments and improve patient outcomes.

Our lab focuses on understanding the anatomy, physiology, and function of the spinal cord centers on spinal cord injury and neurodegenerative diseases.
With a multidisciplinary approach, we use histochemical and immunohistochemical techniques, retrograde tracing, CLARITY clearing technique, western blot, cell culture, and emerging bioengineering techniques and biomaterials.
Our team consists of spinal cord researchers from different disciplines including neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, neuroradiology, neurology, and bioengineering.
